Asstr.org stands for “Alt Sex Stories Text Repository”.
I had to upload my content more than once to asstr.org. As a result, I changed the file names as I re-uploaded the same files. This was so the asstr.org computer wouldn’t confuse my prior file with the new copy.
My page at asstr.org began with catchy file names. It ended with awful file names.
Asstr.org uses a UNIX method of listing files. Hence, “fuck109” is followed by “fuck11”, which is followed by “fuck110”.
I am reproducing the UNIX file names here.
Before each UNIX file name is my modern name for the document. ( In this Table of Contents. )
I uploaded over 1,000 items to asstr.org. To publish those items here, I have to reformat each item.
I’m treating these items as historical documents. That is, I’m striving to change them as little as possible.
Wherever there is a carriage return, I have to add at least one extra carriage return.
Often, there are carriage returns in odd places in the original document. I remove these.
Quote marks, and apostrophes, are often represented by odd symbols in the original document. I have to replace these.
I correct obvious errors: for instance, capitalizing a word that is used as a noun.
I make other small changes to make the story more understandable.
What I avoid is making substantive changes to the document. If something in it disturbs me, I don’t change it. The document’s contents remain as I wrote them.
Shockingly, I’m finding that ‘older isn’t better’, in terms of a writer’s age. I used language much more freely and boldly than I do now. I was a better writer then. Perhaps I’ll learn from my prior writing.
All identifying words, such as America Online, are historical. I haven’t updated these documents with new identifying information.
